The Oregon Ducks closed out their season with a bang, as quarterback Justin Herbert put on a show in the Fiesta Bowl. Herbert threw for five touchdowns and 318 yards in the Ducks’ 45-6 victory over the Liberty Flames. It was a fitting end to Herbert’s illustrious college career, as he leaves Oregon as one of the most decorated quarterbacks in school history.
Herbert was the star of the game, completing 25 of 33 passes and throwing for five touchdowns. He connected with Johnny Johnson III for two touchdowns, and also found Jaylon Redd, Spencer Webb, and Cyrus Habibi-Likio for scores. He also ran for a touchdown in the third quarter. Herbert set a Fiesta Bowl record for most touchdown passes in a single game, and his 318 passing yards were the second-most in Oregon history.
The Ducks’ defense also put on a strong performance, holding Liberty to just six points and forcing two turnovers. The Ducks had three sacks and seven tackles for loss, and their secondary was able to limit Liberty’s passing attack.
Herbert’s performance capped off an incredible college career. He leaves Oregon as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (10,541), passing touchdowns (95), and total offense (11,741). He is also the only player in school history to be named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year twice.
The Ducks’ victory over Liberty was a fitting end to Herbert’s college career, and he will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Oregon history. His five touchdown passes in the Fiesta Bowl will be remembered for years to come, and his legacy at Oregon will live on.
