The Notre Dame Fighting Irish opened their season with a bang, defeating the Navy Midshipmen 42-3 in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday. The game was the first college football game played in Ireland since 1996.
Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book was impressive in his first start of the season, throwing for 164 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. But the real star of the game was backup quarterback Brandon Wimbush, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for another.
The Irish got off to a fast start, scoring on their first possession when Wimbush connected with wide receiver Miles Boykin for a 33-yard touchdown pass. They added another touchdown on their next drive when Wimbush found tight end Alizé Mack for a 20-yard score.
The Irish defense was also impressive, limiting the Midshipmen to just three points. They forced three turnovers, including an interception by linebacker Te’von Coney.
The Irish also got a big performance from running back Tony Jones Jr., who ran for 118 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Chase Claypool added two touchdown receptions.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Irish and a great way to start the season. Quarterback Ian Book will look to build on his impressive performance in the coming weeks, while backup Brandon Wimbush will be looking to continue his strong play. The Irish will look to keep the momentum going as they travel to take on Michigan State next Saturday.
