The University of Texas Longhorns have announced that freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers will be the starter in their upcoming game against TCU on Saturday. This news comes after Ewers recovered from a sprained shoulder he suffered in the team’s last game against Oklahoma State.
Ewers, who is ranked as the No. 7 recruit in the nation according to ESPN, has been impressive in his first season with the Longhorns. He has thrown for 1,068 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes. He has also added an additional three touchdowns on the ground.
Head coach Tom Herman is confident that Ewers is ready to take the field against TCU. “Quinn has been working hard to get back to full strength and we’re confident he’ll be ready to go on Saturday,” Herman said. “He’s a great competitor and we’re excited to see him back out there leading our offense.”
Ewers’ return could be a major boost for the Longhorns, who have struggled offensively in recent weeks. The team has scored just two offensive touchdowns in their last three games and have been held to under 300 yards of total offense in two of those games.
The Longhorns will need a strong performance from Ewers if they are to get back on track against TCU. The Horned Frogs have one of the best defenses in the Big 12 and will be looking to shut down the Texas offense.
It will be interesting to see how Ewers performs in his first game back from injury. If he can stay healthy, he could be the spark the Longhorns need to get their offense going again. We’ll find out on Saturday when No. 7 Texas takes on TCU.
