The University of Connecticut Huskies had a dominant performance on Tuesday night, defeating Stonehill College 107-67. Led by senior guard Jalen Newton’s double-figure performance, the Huskies were able to take control of the game early and never looked back.
Newton scored a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. He also added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the victory. Newton was one of five UConn players to score in double figures, as Christian Vital (19 points), Tyler Polley (14 points), Isaiah Whaley (13 points), and Josh Carlton (11 points) all contributed to the win.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, outscoring Stonehill College by double digits in each quarter. UConn shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc in the game. The Huskies also held Stonehill to just 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from three-point range.
UConn’s defense was also impressive, forcing Stonehill into 16 turnovers while only committing seven of their own. The Huskies also outrebounded the Skyhawks 41-25, with Whaley leading the way with nine rebounds.
The victory was UConn’s sixth in a row and improved their record to 9-2 on the season. The Huskies will look to continue their winning streak when they take on Stony Brook on Saturday.
