The SMU Mustangs have done it! After a long and hard-fought season, the Mustangs have emerged victorious as the American Athletic Conference Champions. On Saturday, December 7th, the Mustangs defeated the Tulane Green Wave 26-14 in a thrilling game that was won by SMU’s dominant defense.

Led by defensive end Patrick Jennings, the Mustangs’ defense was able to shut down the Green Wave’s offense and keep them from scoring any points in the second half. Jennings had two sacks and four tackles for a loss, and his presence on the field was felt throughout the game. The Mustangs’ defense also forced two turnovers, which helped them secure the victory.

On the offensive side of the ball, SMU quarterback Shane Buechele threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. He was able to spread the ball around to his receivers, and his accuracy and decision making were key factors in the Mustangs’ success. Running back Xavier Jones also had a strong performance, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown.

The win marks the first time that SMU has won an American Athletic Conference Championship since joining the conference in 2013. It is also the first conference title for head coach Sonny Dykes, who has been with the program since 2017. The Mustangs will now move on to a bowl game, where they will look to continue their success.

The SMU Mustangs have had a remarkable season, and their victory over Tulane is a testament to their hard work and determination. Led by Patrick Jennings’ dominant defense, the Mustangs were able to come out on top and take home the American Athletic Conference Championship. Congratulations to the SMU Mustangs!
