The No. 15 Oregon State Beavers put on a show in their 52-40 victory over the California Golden Bears on Saturday. Led by freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, the Beavers put up a dominant performance, with Uiagalelei throwing for five touchdown passes and a total of 439 yards.
Uiagalelei was the star of the show, completing 33 of his 50 pass attempts for an impressive completion percentage of 66%. He spread the ball around to eight different receivers, with Trevon Bradford leading the way with eight receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Uiagalelei also ran for a touchdown, showing off his dual-threat capabilities.
The Beavers defense also had a strong performance, holding the Golden Bears to just 40 points. They forced two turnovers, with safety Jalen Moore intercepting a pass and defensive end Hamilcar Rashed Jr. recovering a fumble. The Beavers also recorded three sacks, with Rashed Jr. leading the way with two.
The win was a big one for Oregon State, as it was their first win over a ranked opponent this season. It was also their first win over California since 2014, and it puts them in a great position to make a run at the Pac-12 title.
Uiagalelei’s performance was a huge boost for the Beavers, as he showed that he can be a reliable quarterback for the team going forward. He has now thrown for over 400 yards in three of his last four games, and he looks to be the leader of the team going forward.
Oregon State will look to keep their momentum going as they face off against Stanford next week. With Uiagalelei playing at such a high level, the Beavers have a great chance to continue their winning ways and make a run at the Pac-12 title.
