The University of Utah Utes had a huge victory over the UCLA Bruins on Saturday, winning 14-7 in a game that was missing their starting quarterback, Cam Rising.
The Utes took the lead early in the first quarter with a touchdown from running back Devin Brumfield. The Bruins responded with a field goal in the second quarter, but the Utes held strong and didn’t let UCLA score again.
The Utes defense was the real star of the game, holding the Bruins to just seven points and forcing three turnovers. Linebacker Devin Lloyd had a great game, recording 11 tackles and two sacks. The Utes also had two interceptions, one from safety Julian Blackmon and one from cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
The Utes offense was able to move the ball but struggled without their starting quarterback. Backup quarterback Jason Shelley stepped in and did a good job, throwing for 135 yards and a touchdown. The Utes also got a big boost from running back Zack Moss, who ran for 109 yards and a touchdown.
The win was a huge confidence boost for the Utes, who are now 6-3 on the season and have won four of their last five games. It was also a big win for head coach Kyle Whittingham, who has now won 11 of his last 12 games against UCLA.
The Utes will now look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next game against Oregon State. With Cam Rising expected to return to the lineup, the Utes will be looking to continue their winning streak and keep their bowl hopes alive.
