The New York Giants suffered a major blow on Sunday when quarterback Daniel Jones left the game against the Oakland Raiders with a knee injury. Jones, who was drafted sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, had been playing well for the Giants this season and was looking to lead them to their first win of the year.
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when Jones was tackled by Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby. Jones was seen limping off the field and was later diagnosed with a strained right hamstring. He did not return to the game and was replaced by backup quarterback Colt McCoy.
The Giants have yet to provide an update on Jones’ condition, but it is likely that he will miss some time due to the injury. This is a major blow for the Giants, who have struggled to find consistent quarterback play since Eli Manning retired in 2019.
Jones had been playing well for the Giants this season, throwing for 1,466 yards and eight touchdowns in five games. He had also been able to limit his turnovers, throwing only four interceptions in those five games.
The Giants will now turn to McCoy to lead the offense in Jones’ absence. McCoy has not seen much action since joining the Giants in 2019, but he is a veteran presence who should be able to provide a spark for the offense.
It remains to be seen how long Jones will be out, but it is clear that the Giants will have to make do without him for at least a few weeks. It will be interesting to see how McCoy performs in his absence and if he can help the Giants turn their season around.
