The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to take a commanding 10-5 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night, thanks in large part to the heroics of outfielder Cody Muncy. Muncy had a historic night at the plate, becoming the first Dodger to hit two home runs in a single game against the Giants since Matt Kemp in 2011.
Muncy’s first home run came in the top of the fourth inning, when he sent a solo shot over the left field wall to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. He then added a two-run shot in the top of the sixth, pushing the Dodgers’ lead to 8-3. The home runs were Muncy’s 15th and 16th of the season, and his fourth and fifth against the Giants this year.
The Dodgers’ offense was firing on all cylinders throughout the game, as they scored at least one run in each of the first six innings. They also got contributions from Justin Turner, who had three hits and two RBIs, and Corey Seager, who had two hits and two RBIs.
The win was a welcome one for the Dodgers, who have been struggling to stay above .500 for much of the season. With the win, they improved to 34-33 on the year and moved within one game of the Giants in the National League West standings.
Muncy’s performance was certainly a highlight of the night, but it was far from the only one. The Dodgers’ offense was clicking on all cylinders, and their pitching staff was able to hold off a late surge from the Giants to secure the win. It was an impressive victory for Los Angeles, and one that could be a sign of things to come as they look to make a run at the division title.
