Moses Wood’s attempt to upset No. 20 Colorado State fell short on Saturday night, as the Huskies were able to keep the Rams scoreless. Wood, a senior quarterback for Colorado State, had been a major part of the Rams’ success this season, but he was unable to get anything going against the Huskies’ defense.
The Rams had been riding high coming into the game, having won three straight games and sitting at 4-2 in the Mountain West Conference. Wood had been a major part of their success, throwing for 1,908 yards and 16 touchdowns in the first six games of the season. Heading into Saturday’s matchup with Washington, Wood was looking to lead the Rams to an upset victory over a top-20 team.
Unfortunately for Wood and the Rams, the Huskies’ defense was too much for them to handle. Washington held Colorado State to just 105 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers. Wood was held to just 11-of-25 passing for 88 yards and an interception. He was also sacked four times and failed to lead the Rams into the end zone.
The loss drops Colorado State to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. While the Rams are still in contention for a bowl game, they will need to find a way to get back on track if they want to make it there. Wood will need to be a major part of that effort, as he has been so far this season. He will have another chance to lead the Rams to an upset victory when they take on No. 17 Boise State next week.
