Michigan Wolverines Defeat East Carolina Pirates 30-3 in J.J. McCarthy’s Debut without Jim Harbaugh on the Sidelines

The Michigan Wolverines made a statement in their season opener against the East Carolina Pirates, as they defeated them 30-3 in J.J. McCarthy’s debut as head coach without Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines.

The Wolverines were led by quarterback Joe Milton, who threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Milton was efficient and accurate, completing 18 of his 24 passes and leading the offense to five scoring drives. The Wolverines’ defense was also impressive, holding the Pirates to just three points and forcing three turnovers.

The Wolverines’ offense was balanced, with running back Hassan Haskins rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Wide receiver Ronnie Bell had a big day, catching nine passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. The Wolverines also got contributions from tight end Erick All, who had four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The Wolverines’ defense was led by linebacker Cameron McGrone, who had seven tackles and an interception. Safety Daxton Hill also had a strong performance, recording seven tackles and a pass breakup. The defense was able to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard until late in the fourth quarter, when they scored a field goal.

J.J. McCarthy’s debut as head coach was a success, as the Wolverines were able to dominate the Pirates in all facets of the game. The Wolverines will look to build on this performance as they take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers next week. With McCarthy at the helm, the Wolverines have a chance to make some noise in the Big Ten this season.
