The Mercer Island Girls Swim Team had a historic performance at the 3A State Championship, taking home the title for the first time in school history. Led by senior Piper Enge, the Islanders put together a dominant performance that will be remembered for years to come.
Enge was the star of the show, winning four individual events and setting two state records in the process. She won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly in record-breaking times, and also took home gold in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Her performance was so impressive that she was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer.
The rest of the Mercer Island team was just as impressive, with several swimmers earning individual medals and contributing to the team’s success. Senior Emma Johnson won two individual events and set a state record in the 500-yard freestyle, while junior Abigail Hsu won the 100-yard breaststroke and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley. The Islanders also had strong performances from juniors Sarah Miller and Emily Bowers, who both earned individual medals.
The Mercer Island Girls Swim Team’s victory was a total team effort, and it was capped off by a historic performance from Piper Enge. The Islanders will look to build on this success in the years to come, as they look to defend their 3A State Championship title.
