Golf fans around the world were treated to a thrilling performance by Max Homa on Saturday at the BMW Championship. The American golfer shot a course record of 63 at Olympia Fields Country Club, giving him a one-stroke lead heading into the final round.
Homa started the day four shots off the lead, but quickly made up ground with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He then went on to make four more birdies on the front nine, and an eagle on the par-5 13th hole. He finished the round with four consecutive pars, giving him a total of nine birdies and an eagle for the day.
The course record was previously held by Tiger Woods, who shot a 64 in 1997. Homa’s performance was even more impressive considering the fact that he had never even seen the course before this week.
Homa’s round was also the lowest of the tournament so far, and it puts him in prime position to win his first PGA Tour event. He will be looking to hold off some of the game’s best players, including Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Dustin Johnson.
