MATCHDAY: Roma visits Empoli after consecutive losses

Seattle Sports

A look at what’s happening in European soccer on Monday:

ITALY

Jose Mourinho’s Roma looks to bounce back from consecutive losses when it visits winless Empoli in Serie A. Roma had been unbeaten until a 4-0 drubbing by Udinese last weekend, which was followed by a 2-1 defeat at Ludogorets in the Europa League. Newly signed center forward Andrea Belotti appeared out of form against Ludogorets but Tammy Abraham is expected back for the game in Tuscany. When the teams last met in January, Roma won 4-2 with a brace from Abraham.

SPAIN

Osasuna visits promoted Almería looking for its second straight victory to stay near the top of the Spanish league early in the season. A win would leave Osasuna with 12 points from five matches, three points behind leader Real Madrid and one point behind second-place Barcelona. Saudi-owned Almería needs the victory to move further away from the bottom of the standings. It has only one win so far in its return to the first division.
