The Seattle Mariners have made a roster move, placing outfielder AJ Pollock on the 10-day injured list with a right adductor strain. The team has recalled outfielder Taylor Trammell from their Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, to take Pollock’s place on the active roster.
Pollock, who signed a four-year, $60 million contract with the Mariners this offseason, was off to a hot start in his first season with the team. In 18 games, he was batting .296 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He was also playing stellar defense in center field, making several highlight-reel catches.
Trammell, the Mariners’ top prospect, will now get an opportunity to make his Major League debut. The 22-year-old was batting .286 with one home run and seven RBIs in 14 games with Tacoma. He was also tied for the team lead with three stolen bases.
Trammell is a former first-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2016 and was acquired by the Mariners in a trade last December. He is considered one of the top prospects in baseball and is expected to be a key part of the Mariners’ future.
The Mariners hope that Pollock’s injury isn’t serious and that he’ll be able to return soon. In the meantime, they’ll look to Trammell to provide a spark at the plate and in the outfield while Pollock is out. It will be exciting to see what he can do in his first taste of Major League action.
