The Seattle Mariners were able to pull out a 3-2 victory against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday despite some offensive struggles. The Mariners were able to take advantage of some timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the win.
The game started off with a bang as the Mariners scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Kyle Seager drove in the first run of the game with a single to left field and then Dee Gordon followed it up with an RBI double to center field. After that, the Mariners offense went quiet for the rest of the game.
The Athletics responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning. Stephen Piscotty drove in the first run with a single to center field and then Matt Chapman followed it up with an RBI double to left field.
The Mariners were able to take the lead back in the top of the sixth inning when Seager drove in his second run of the game with a single to right field. The Mariners then held on for the rest of the game thanks to some stellar pitching from Marco Gonzales and Edwin Diaz.
Gonzales pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Diaz then came in for the final two innings and shut down the Athletics offense, allowing no runs on just one hit while striking out three batters.
The Mariners were able to get the win despite some offensive struggles, as they only had five hits and one walk in the game. However, they were able to take advantage of some timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the victory. With this win, the Mariners improve their record to 11-10 on the season and will look to continue their winning ways in their next game against the Los Angeles Angels.
