The Seattle Mariners have been struggling to find their footing early in the season, but on Tuesday night, they were able to turn things around in a big way. Led by pitcher Logan Gilbert, the Mariners defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-3 in a thrilling game that saw the Mariners rally from an early deficit.
Gilbert, who was making his first start of the season, was masterful on the mound. He pitched six innings of two-run ball, allowing only four hits and striking out eight batters. His performance was especially impressive considering he had not pitched in a major league game since September of 2019.
The Mariners offense was also key to the victory. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Mariners scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Kyle Seager and Dylan Moore each had RBI singles in the inning, while J.P. Crawford added a two-run double to put the Mariners ahead for good.
The Mariners bullpen also did its part to preserve the lead. Matt Magill and Rafael Montero combined for three scoreless innings of relief, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters.
The victory was a much-needed one for the Mariners, who had lost five of their last six games heading into Tuesday night. With Gilbert leading the way, the Mariners were able to turn things around and get back in the win column. If they can continue to get strong performances from their starting pitchers, they should be able to make a run at a playoff spot this season.
