It’s official: Kyle McCord is transferring to Syracuse University to reunite with his former Ohio State coach, Fran Brown. The news was announced on Monday, and it’s sure to be a major boost for the Orange.
McCord, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback, was a four-star recruit out of St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. He was ranked as the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 class by 247Sports. He had originally committed to Ohio State, but he decided to transfer after his freshman season.
McCord will now join forces with Brown, who was his offensive coordinator at Ohio State. Brown left the Buckeyes in January to become the head coach at Syracuse. The two have a strong relationship, and McCord is excited to reunite with his former coach.
“I’m really excited to be reunited with Coach Brown,” McCord said in a statement. “He’s a great coach and an even better person. I’m looking forward to being part of the Syracuse football family.”
McCord will have to sit out the 2021 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have three years of eligibility remaining starting in 2022. He will have plenty of time to develop and learn the offense under Brown’s tutelage.
The addition of McCord is a major coup for Syracuse and Brown. He is a talented quarterback with a high ceiling, and he should be an impact player for the Orange when he becomes eligible. It’s an exciting time for Syracuse football, and the future looks bright with McCord in the fold.
