The Kraken, Seattle’s new NHL franchise, made history in their first game ever against the Dallas Stars. After a high-scoring first period, the Kraken went on to win the game 5-4 in overtime.
The Kraken got off to a hot start, scoring three goals in the first period. The first goal came from forward Sam Lafferty, who scored off a rebound from a shot by defenseman Matt Benning. The second goal was scored by forward J.T. Miller, who put a wrist shot past Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin. The third goal was scored by forward Rourke Chartier, who put a wrist shot past Khudobin from the slot.
The Stars responded with two goals of their own in the first period. The first goal was scored by forward Joe Pavelski, who put a wrist shot past Kraken goaltender Ilya Samsonov. The second goal was scored by forward Jamie Benn, who put a wrist shot past Samsonov from the slot.
The second period was scoreless, but the Kraken were able to take the lead in the third period when forward Casey Cizikas scored off a rebound from a shot by defenseman Nate Schmidt. However, the Stars were able to tie the game with just over two minutes remaining in regulation when forward Alexander Radulov put a wrist shot past Samsonov.
The game went into overtime and the Kraken were able to score the game-winning goal when forward Tyler Johnson put a wrist shot past Khudobin from the slot.
The Kraken’s historic first game victory was made possible by their high-scoring first period. The team was able to take advantage of their opportunities and capitalize on their chances to take an early lead. This win is sure to give the Kraken confidence going forward as they look to make more history in their inaugural season.
