The Kraken, Seattle’s newest NHL team, have made some big moves ahead of their regular-season opener on Tuesday. The team has trimmed its roster from 28 players to the league-mandated 23 players, making some tough decisions in the process.
The Kraken have sent four players to their AHL affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. Those players are forwards Matthew Wedman, Nolan Volcan, defenseman Reece Harsch, and goaltender Liam Hughes. All four players have been impressive in training camp and preseason games, but the Kraken needed to make room for their veteran players.
The Kraken have also placed forward Sami Moilanen on waivers. Moilanen was a sixth-round draft pick in 2018 and has been impressive in camp and preseason games. He is expected to be claimed by another team if he clears waivers.
The Kraken have also assigned three players to the taxi squad. Those players are forwards Conner Bleackley, Andrej Kukuca, and defenseman Jarret Tyszka. All three players will practice with the team and be available to play if needed.
The Kraken have also placed forward Zack Andrusiak on injured reserve. Andrusiak suffered an upper-body injury during the preseason and is expected to miss at least a month of action.
The Kraken are now ready for their regular-season opener against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. The team has made some tough decisions to get down to the league-mandated 23 players, but they are now ready to start their inaugural season.
