The University of Washington football team had a remarkable season, and their success has been recognized by the Pac-12 Conference. Kalen DeBoer, the head coach of the Huskies, was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, and four of his players were named to the All-Pac-12 First Team.
The Huskies finished the regular season with a 7-2 record, and they were ranked No. 15 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. It was an impressive turnaround for a team that went just 4-8 in 2019. Coach DeBoer was hired in December of 2019, and he quickly turned the program around.
The four Huskies who received first-team honors were quarterback Dylan Morris, wide receiver Puka Nacua, offensive lineman Jaxson Kirkland, and defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike. Morris was the leader of the offense, throwing for 2,558 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 66.7 percent of his passes. Nacua was his favorite target, catching 56 passes for 861 yards and nine touchdowns. Kirkland anchored the offensive line, while Onwuzurike was a disruptive force on defense with seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Coach DeBoer has done an incredible job in his first season at Washington. He has instilled a winning culture and has the team playing at a high level. His players have responded to his leadership and have bought into his system. The Huskies are now one of the top teams in the Pac-12 and look poised to make a run at a conference title in 2021.
The recognition from the Pac-12 is well deserved for Coach DeBoer and his four first-team players. They have worked hard all season and have put together an impressive campaign. The future looks bright for the Huskies, and it’s all thanks to Coach DeBoer and his staff.
