On July 18th and 19th, Josef Newgarden made history by becoming the first driver to win IndyCar Series races at Iowa Speedway on back-to-back days. Newgarden, who drives for Team Penske, dominated the field in both races, leading a combined total of 212 laps.

The first race saw Newgarden start from pole position and lead the entire race, finishing with a 5.5 second lead over second place driver Scott Dixon. The second race was a bit more competitive, with Newgarden leading only the final 20 laps. He was able to hold off a hard-charging Dixon to take the checkered flag by 0.5 seconds.

Newgarden’s performance at Iowa Speedway was impressive, but it was also indicative of his overall success this season. He has now won four races in 2020, including three of the last four. He currently sits atop the IndyCar Series standings with 446 points, well ahead of second place Dixon who has 388 points.

Newgarden’s success at Iowa Speedway is a testament to his skill as a driver and his ability to stay focused and perform under pressure. It also speaks to the strength of Team Penske, who have been at the forefront of IndyCar racing for decades.

It will be interesting to see if Newgarden can continue his success in the remaining races of the season. If he does, he could be on his way to winning his second IndyCar Series championship.
