On Thursday, Jonas Blixt shot an incredible 8-under par 62 to take the first-round lead at the John Deere Classic. Blixt, a two-time PGA Tour winner, was in top form as he carded eight birdies and an eagle on the par-71 TPC Deere Run course in Silvis, Illinois.
The round was a career-low for Blixt and the lowest score ever recorded in the first round of the John Deere Classic. His previous best was a 64 at the 2013 RBC Canadian Open.
Blixt’s round was highlighted by a stretch of five consecutive birdies on holes 4-8. He then added an eagle on the par-5 11th hole and finished with three more birdies on the back nine.
The performance puts Blixt in a strong position to win his third PGA Tour title. He is currently two shots ahead of second-place finisher, Ryan Moore.
Blixt’s round was also impressive considering the difficult conditions at TPC Deere Run. The course has long been considered one of the toughest on the PGA Tour and is known for its tight fairways and thick rough.
The John Deere Classic is one of the most popular tournaments on the PGA Tour and is known for its exciting finishes. With Blixt’s impressive performance in the first round, it looks like this year’s tournament will be no exception.
It will be interesting to see if Blixt can hold onto his lead and take home the trophy. Either way, his 8-under par 62 is sure to be remembered as one of the best rounds of golf in John Deere Classic history.
