The South Dakota State Jackrabbits opened their season with a bang, as they defeated the University of South Dakota Coyotes 45-7 in their season opener. Led by reigning FCS champion quarterback Jimmy Rogers, the Jackrabbits put on a show for the home crowd.
Rogers was electric in the game, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another. He completed 18 of his 25 passes for 202 yards and no interceptions. His performance was a reminder of why he was named the FCS Offensive Player of the Year last season.
The Jackrabbits defense was also impressive, holding the Coyotes to just seven points and forcing three turnovers. The defense was led by linebacker Logan Backhaus, who had 11 tackles and two sacks.
The Jackrabbits dominated in all facets of the game, outgaining the Coyotes 467-182 in total yards. They also held the Coyotes to just 3-of-13 on third down conversions.
The win was a great start to the season for the Jackrabbits, and a reminder of why they are the defending FCS champions. With Rogers leading the way, the Jackrabbits look poised to make another run at a championship this season.
