It is with a heavy heart that we must report the passing of Jim Price, former Detroit Tigers catcher and analyst, at the age of 81.
Jim Price was born in 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1960 and made his major league debut in 1964. During his time with the Tigers, he played catcher and first base and was a part of the 1968 World Series championship team. In addition to his playing career, Price also served as a coach and broadcaster for the Tigers from 1979 to 2013.
Price was known for his enthusiasm and passion for the game of baseball. He was a beloved figure in the Detroit community and was often seen at Tiger games, cheering on the team. He was also known for his willingness to help young players, offering advice and guidance to those just starting out in the game.
