On Tuesday, former NFL quarterback Jalen Kitna plead guilty to reduced charges in a Florida child pornography case. The charges stem from an incident in 2018 when Kitna was arrested for possession of child pornography.
According to the plea agreement, Kitna plead guilty to one count of possession of obscene material depicting minors engaged in conduct harmful to minors. He was originally charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped the remaining four charges and agreed to a sentence of two years of probation and a $2,000 fine. Kitna will also be required to register as a sex offender in Florida.
The plea agreement also stipulates that Kitna must complete a sex offender treatment program and is prohibited from having any contact with minors without prior approval from his probation officer.
Kitna, who was a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in 2007, was arrested in 2018 after investigators found images of child pornography on his computer. He has since retired from the NFL and had been working as a high school football coach in Texas.
The plea agreement is a positive outcome for Kitna, who faced up to five years in prison if convicted on all five counts. His attorney, David Haas, stated that “Jalen is very pleased with the outcome of this case and is looking forward to putting this behind him and moving on with his life.”
This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences associated with possession of child pornography. It is important to remember that those who are found guilty of such crimes face severe penalties, including jail time and registration as a sex offender.
