The Jacksonville Jaguars’ playoff hopes were dashed on Sunday after a 28-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans. The loss eliminated the Jaguars from the playoff race and ended their season with a 1-15 record.
The game was close throughout, with the Jaguars taking a 14-7 lead into halftime. The Titans responded in the second half, scoring 21 unanswered points to take a 28-14 lead. The Jaguars mounted a late comeback, but it wasn’t enough as they fell just short of the goal line on the final play of the game.
The loss was especially heartbreaking for Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew, who had a solid performance in the game. He threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for a touchdown. However, it was his final play of the game that will be remembered most. With the Jaguars down eight points and just seconds remaining, Minshew scrambled out of the pocket and ran towards the goal line. He was stopped just short of the goal line, ending the game and the Jaguars’ season.
The loss was a disappointing end to a difficult season for the Jaguars. After starting the season 0-12, they won their first game of the year against the Chicago Bears in Week 14. They followed that up with a win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 15, giving them hope that they could make a late run for the playoffs. Unfortunately, that hope was dashed with Sunday’s loss to the Titans.
The Jaguars now turn their attention to the offseason, where they will look to rebuild their roster and make a push for the playoffs in 2021. It won’t be easy, but with Minshew at quarterback and a few key additions, the Jaguars could be back in contention next season.
