The Idaho State Bengals opened their season with a bang, defeating the Warner Pacific Knights 92-36 in a dominant performance. The Bengals were led by senior guard Brandon Boyd, who scored a game-high 22 points and dished out five assists. Boyd was joined by three other double-digit scorers, as the Bengals had four players in double figures.
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 56 points in the second half. The Bengals shot an impressive 56% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc, while also out-rebounding the Knights 43-25. The Bengals defense was also impressive, holding the Knights to just 36 points on 28% shooting from the field.
The win marks the first of the season for the Bengals, and sets them up for a successful season. Head coach Bill Evans was pleased with his team’s performance, saying “We played with great energy and effort tonight. We had great ball movement and shot the ball well, which allowed us to get out to a big lead early and never look back.”
The Bengals will look to build on this win as they travel to face off against the University of Montana next week. If they can continue to play with the same intensity and energy as they did in their season opener, they should be in good shape for a successful season.
