The Idaho Vandals football team had a huge victory over the Cal Poly Mustangs on Saturday, with quarterback Mason McCoy leading the way. McCoy threw two touchdown passes to help the Vandals secure the win.
The Vandals got off to a strong start in the first quarter, with McCoy connecting with wide receiver Blake Rice for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The Mustangs responded with a field goal, but the Vandals were able to take a 7-3 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, McCoy connected with wide receiver Kaleb Jones for a 40-yard touchdown pass to extend the Vandals’ lead to 14-3. The Mustangs responded with another field goal, but the Vandals were able to maintain their lead going into halftime.
The Vandals continued to dominate in the second half, with McCoy throwing his third touchdown pass of the game to wide receiver Kaleb Jones for a 20-yard touchdown. The Mustangs were unable to respond and the Vandals held on for the 21-6 victory.
McCoy finished the game with three touchdown passes and no interceptions, completing 16 of 22 passes for 195 yards. He also rushed for 37 yards on seven carries.
The Vandals defense was also impressive, holding the Mustangs to just six points and forcing two turnovers. Linebacker Austin Smith led the way with eight tackles and two sacks.
The win was a huge confidence boost for the Vandals, who have struggled in recent weeks. With McCoy leading the way, they have a chance to make a run at the Big Sky Conference title this season.
It was an impressive victory for the Vandals, and they will look to build on it as they take on the Montana Grizzlies next week.
