The Idaho Vandals made a statement on Saturday night, defeating the Northern Colorado Bears 27-13 in a hard-fought battle. The Vandals were led by a stellar performance from defensive back Kody Harris, who had a pick-six in the second quarter that put the game out of reach.
The Vandals got off to a slow start, as Northern Colorado opened the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter. Idaho responded with a touchdown drive of their own, capped off by a two-yard touchdown run from running back Tyrese Jones. The Vandals then added a field goal to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
The second half was all Idaho, as Harris’ pick-six put the Vandals up 17-3. Northern Colorado responded with a touchdown of their own, but Idaho answered with a touchdown pass from quarterback Mason Petrino to wide receiver Cutrell Haywood to make it 24-10. The Vandals then added a field goal late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Harris was the star of the show for Idaho, as his pick-six was the difference maker in the game. He also had four tackles and two pass breakups in the game. Petrino also had a strong performance, throwing for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Jones added 73 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Vandals.
The win was a big one for Idaho, as they improved to 4-2 on the season and remain in contention for a bowl game. The Vandals will look to keep their momentum going next week when they take on the Montana Grizzlies.
