The Houston Astros put on a show in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Texas Rangers. The Astros scored five runs off of Rangers’ ace Max Scherzer in just four innings of work. It was a dominant performance from the Astros, who have now taken a 2-1 lead in the series.
Scherzer was dominant in the first two innings, striking out four batters and allowing just one hit. However, the Astros were able to break through in the third inning, scoring three runs off of Scherzer. They added two more in the fourth inning, and that was all she wrote for Scherzer. He was pulled after four innings, having allowed five runs on six hits.
The Astros’ offense was led by Jose Altuve, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Alex Bregman also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Yuli Gurriel, Carlos Correa and George Springer also contributed with hits in the game.
The Astros’ pitching was also stellar, as starter Zack Greinke allowed just two runs in six innings of work. The bullpen then shut the door, as Ryan Pressly, Will Harris and Roberto Osuna combined to pitch three scoreless innings.
The Astros now have a 2-1 lead in the series, and will look to extend it in Game 4. They will send Framber Valdez to the mound, while the Rangers will counter with Lance Lynn. It should be an exciting game, as both teams look to take control of the series.
