The Gotham FC soccer team made history on Saturday, October 3rd, when they secured their spot in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) semifinals with a 2-0 victory over North Carolina Courage. This marks the first time in the team’s history that they have advanced to the semifinals of the NWSL.
Gotham FC was able to take the lead in the first half of the game when forward Midge Purce scored a goal in the 21st minute. The team was able to maintain their lead throughout the rest of the game, and in the 90th minute, midfielder Raquel Rodriguez sealed the victory with a goal that put Gotham FC up 2-0.
The victory was a huge accomplishment for Gotham FC, who had previously been eliminated from the playoffs in the quarterfinals in both 2018 and 2019. This time around, however, they were able to make it all the way to the semifinals, where they will face off against the Portland Thorns.
