Gil Brandt, Pro Football Hall of Famer Who Helped Establish the Dallas Cowboys as “America’s Team,” Passes Away at 91

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Gil Brandt, Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Vice President of Player Personnel for the Dallas Cowboys. Brandt passed away on Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 at the age of 91.

Brandt was a major figure in the history of the NFL, and is credited with helping to establish the Dallas Cowboys as “America’s Team.” He was a key figure in the team’s success during the 1960s and 1970s, and was instrumental in building one of the most successful franchises in NFL history.

Brandt began his career in football in 1956, when he joined the Los Angeles Rams as a scout. He then moved to the Dallas Cowboys in 1960, where he served as Vice President of Player Personnel for 28 years. During his tenure with the Cowboys, Brandt helped to build a team that won five Super Bowls and appeared in 10 NFC Championship Games. He was also responsible for drafting some of the most iconic players in NFL history, including Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin.

Brandt was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019, and was also named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team. He was an innovator in the field of player evaluation and scouting, and is credited with introducing many of the techniques that are still used today.

Brandt will be remembered as one of the most influential figures in the history of the NFL. His legacy will live on through the success of the Dallas Cowboys, and through the impact he had on the game of football. He will be greatly missed.
