Giannis Antetokounmpo made history on Tuesday night, becoming the all-time leading rebounder in Milwaukee Bucks history. The Greek Freak grabbed his 5,816th career board in the Bucks’ 122-97 win over the Houston Rockets, surpassing the previous record held by Bucks legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Antetokounmpo finished the night with 11 rebounds, giving him 5,817 for his career. He also added 24 points and seven assists in the victory.
The 25-year-old Antetokounmpo has been a force for the Bucks since he was drafted in 2013. He’s been an All-Star in each of the last five seasons and was named the NBA MVP in 2019. He’s also led the Bucks to the playoffs in each of the last four seasons, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals last year.
Abdul-Jabbar held the Bucks’ rebounding record since 1975, when he was traded away from Milwaukee to the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 11.2 rebounds per game during his time with the Bucks and was a six-time NBA champion.
Antetokounmpo’s accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game. He’s become one of the best players in the league and is well on his way to becoming an all-time great.
The Bucks are currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference with a record of 25-14. With Antetokounmpo leading the way, they look poised to make another deep run in the playoffs this season.
