The Seattle Seahawks were dealt a major blow on Sunday as they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in a lopsided 24-13 defeat. The Seahawks had a tough time getting anything going offensively, and it was made worse by the fact that quarterback Geno Smith was sacked six times.
Smith, who was making his first start for the Seahawks, was under constant pressure from the 49ers defense. He was sacked six times and hit on several other occasions, leading to a total of nine quarterback hits. Smith finished the game with just nine completions for 57 yards and no touchdowns.
The Seahawks offense was unable to get anything going all game long, as they failed to score an offensive touchdown. Seattle had just one drive that lasted more than five minutes, and that was in the fourth quarter when they were already down by two scores.
The lack of offensive production was not all on Smith, however. The Seahawks offensive line struggled to keep the 49ers pass rush at bay and allowed Smith to be sacked six times. The running game was also non-existent, as Seattle managed just 54 yards on the ground.
The Seahawks will now have to regroup and figure out how to get their offense going again. With Smith at the helm, they will need to do a better job of protecting him and giving him time to make plays. If they can do that, then they should be able to get back on track and put up some points.
Overall, it was a disappointing performance from the Seahawks on Sunday. They failed to score an offensive touchdown and allowed Smith to be sacked six times. They will need to make some adjustments if they want to get back on track and start putting up points again.
