The Phoenix Suns have reportedly hired Frank Vogel as their new head coach. According to an Associated Press source, the team has agreed to a three-year deal with the former Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic coach.
Vogel, 47, is a veteran of the NBA coaching ranks, having spent 11 seasons as a head coach in the league. He was most recently with the Magic, where he served as head coach for two seasons. Prior to that, he spent five seasons as the head coach of the Pacers, leading them to the playoffs in all five seasons, including two trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Vogel brings a wealth of experience to the Suns, and his hiring is seen as a major step forward for the franchise. The Suns have been searching for a new head coach since firing Igor Kokoskov after just one season. Vogel is expected to bring stability to the team and help them reach their goal of becoming a playoff contender.
Vogel is known for his defensive-minded approach to the game, and he will be tasked with helping the Suns improve on that side of the ball. The team was ranked near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency last season, and Vogel will look to turn that around in his first season in Phoenix.
The Suns have also made some major moves this offseason, acquiring point guard Ricky Rubio in a trade with the Utah Jazz and signing center Aron Baynes in free agency. With Vogel now at the helm, the Suns are hoping to build on these moves and make a run at the playoffs in the upcoming season.
It remains to be seen how Vogel will fare in Phoenix, but it’s clear that the Suns are looking to take a big step forward this season. With Vogel now on board, the team is hoping to make some noise in the Western Conference and become a legitimate playoff contender.
