On Tuesday, Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor underwent successful surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Meister at the Texas Sports Medicine Center in Dallas.
Lindor, who is entering his sixth season in the major leagues, had been dealing with elbow discomfort for several weeks. After consulting with team doctors, it was determined that the bone spur was the source of the pain and that surgery was the best course of action.
The 26-year-old Lindor is one of the most dynamic players in baseball and is coming off a season in which he hit .284 with 32 home runs and 74 RBIs. He is a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner.
The Indians are hopeful that Lindor will be able to return to the field in time for Opening Day, but they are preparing for the possibility that he may not be ready. In the event that he is not ready, the team will likely turn to utility man Mike Freeman or prospect Yu Chang to fill in at shortstop.
Lindor is an integral part of the Indians’ lineup and his absence would be a huge blow to the team’s chances of competing for a championship this season. The team is optimistic that he will make a full recovery and be ready to go when the season begins.
The Indians will continue to monitor Lindor’s progress as he recovers from surgery and will provide updates as they become available.
