Florida Atlantic University (FAU) made history on April 3rd, 2021, when its men’s basketball team became the first-ever team from the school to make an appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four. The Owls, as they are affectionately known, have been a member of the NCAA since 2002 and have been steadily improving their basketball program over the years.
The Owls’ journey to the Final Four was a long and arduous one. They started off the season with a record of 16-7 and had to fight their way through the Conference USA tournament to make it to the NCAA tournament. Once there, they defeated teams such as the University of Central Florida, the University of South Florida, and the University of North Carolina to make it to the Elite Eight. From there, they defeated the University of Virginia to make it to the Final Four.
The Owls’ success in the tournament has been attributed to their strong defense and balanced offense. The team is led by head coach Michael Curry, who has been with the program since 2017. He has instilled a culture of hard work and dedication that has been instrumental in the team’s success. The team also features several talented players, including guard Michael Forrest, forward Jailyn Ingram, and center Ronald Delph.
The Owls’ historic run has been met with excitement from both students and alumni alike. The school has held several watch parties for their games, and students have been proudly wearing their FAU gear around campus. The team has also received an outpouring of support from local businesses and organizations, who have been donating money and supplies to help the team on their journey.
The Owls’ appearance in the Final Four is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and staff at FAU. This is a momentous occasion for the school and its basketball program, and one that will be remembered for years to come.
