The 2020 Pac-12 football season was an interesting one, to say the least. With the pandemic causing a delay in the start of the season, teams had to adjust to the new circumstances and make the most of a shortened season. As the season has come to a close, it is time to evaluate the performance of the Pac-12 teams.
The Oregon Ducks were the clear standout of the season, finishing with a 6-0 record and winning the Pac-12 championship. Led by quarterback Tyler Shough, the Ducks had an impressive offense that scored an average of 37.7 points per game. On defense, Oregon was equally impressive, allowing only 17.8 points per game. The Ducks are now set to face Iowa State in the Fiesta Bowl on January 2nd.
The USC Trojans also had a successful season, finishing with a 5-1 record and a second-place finish in the Pac-12. Led by quarterback Kedon Slovis, the Trojans had an explosive offense that scored an average of 38.3 points per game. On defense, USC was solid, allowing only 23.3 points per game. The Trojans will now face off against the Big Ten champion, Iowa Hawkeyes, in the Holiday Bowl on December 27th.
The Washington Huskies had a good season as well, finishing with a 4-2 record and a third-place finish in the Pac-12. Led by quarterback Dylan Morris, the Huskies had an efficient offense that scored an average of 32.7 points per game. On defense, Washington was solid, allowing only 22.7 points per game. The Huskies will now face off against the Big 12 champion, Oklahoma Sooners, in the Cotton Bowl on December 30th.
The Colorado Buffaloes had a decent season, finishing with a 3-2 record and a fourth-place finish in the Pac-12. Led by quarterback Sam Noyer, the Buffaloes had an effective offense that scored an average of 29.4 points per game. On defense, Colorado was solid, allowing only 23.2 points per game. The Buffaloes will now face off against the SEC champion, Alabama Crimson Tide, in the CFP National Championship on January 11th.
Overall, it was a successful season for Pac-12 teams despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Oregon was clearly the standout team of the season and is now set to compete in a major bowl game. USC and Washington also had successful seasons and will compete in bowl games as well. Colorado had a decent season and will compete in the CFP National Championship against Alabama. It will be interesting to see how these teams fare in their respective bowl games and how they will perform in 2021.
