It was recently announced that former San Diego State offensive lineman Drew Azzopardi has decided to transfer to the University of Washington. Azzopardi, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound redshirt freshman, is looking to make an impact with the Huskies and is excited to join the program.
Azzopardi was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and was ranked as the No. 25 offensive tackle in the country by 247Sports. He chose San Diego State over offers from Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, and UNLV.
At San Diego State, Azzopardi played in nine games as a redshirt freshman. He was part of an offensive line that helped the Aztecs average over 200 yards rushing per game. He also provided protection for quarterback Carson Baker, who threw for over 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Now, Azzopardi will look to make an impact with the Huskies. He will have two years of eligibility remaining and will be able to compete for a starting spot on the offensive line. The Huskies have had success with transfers in the past, including former Oregon State offensive lineman Jake Hanson, who started all 13 games for Washington last season.
Azzopardi is a talented player who could make an immediate impact for the Huskies. He has the size and athleticism to be a force on the offensive line and could help Washington’s offense reach new heights. It will be interesting to see how Azzopardi fits in with the Huskies and how he helps them in the upcoming season.
