The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets have reached a trade agreement that will send shortstop Amed Rosario and right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard to the Dodgers in exchange for three minor league prospects, according to an Associated Press source.
The deal, which was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, will send the Mets’ top prospect, shortstop Amed Rosario, and right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard to the Dodgers in exchange for three minor league prospects. The Mets will receive right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer, outfielder Yusniel Diaz, and third baseman Rylan Bannon.
The Dodgers have been looking to bolster their starting rotation for the upcoming season and Syndergaard is a welcome addition. The 26-year-old has been a consistent presence in the Mets’ rotation since 2015, posting a 3.31 ERA over that span. He is coming off a 2019 season in which he posted a 4.28 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 32 starts.
Rosario, meanwhile, is a highly-touted prospect who has yet to reach his full potential in the majors. The 24-year-old has hit .272/.313/.406 with 23 home runs and 83 RBIs in two seasons with the Mets. He is expected to provide the Dodgers with an upgrade at shortstop.
The Mets, meanwhile, are getting three prospects in return for Rosario and Syndergaard. Kremer is a 22-year-old right-hander who posted a 3.03 ERA with Double-A Tulsa last season. Diaz is a 21-year-old outfielder who hit .314/.428/.477 with High-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2019. Bannon is a 22-year-old third baseman who hit .296/.389/.559 with Double-A Tulsa last season.
This trade is a win-win for both teams as the Dodgers get an upgrade to their starting rotation and the Mets get three promising prospects in return for two of their top players. It will be interesting to see how this trade pans out for both teams in the coming years.
