Diamondbacks Score Six Runs off Brewers’ Burnes to Win Wild Card Series Opener 6-3

Seattle Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks opened the Wild Card Series with a bang, scoring six runs off Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes to win the game 6-3. The Diamondbacks got off to a hot start in the first inning, with Ketel Marte leading off with a double and Eduardo Escobar driving him in with an RBI single. The Diamondbacks added two more runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Christian Walker.

The Brewers responded in the fourth inning, as Ryan Braun drove in two runs with a double to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the Diamondbacks answered back in the fifth inning, scoring two more runs on a two-run homer by Carson Kelly. The Brewers added one more run in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Diamondbacks’ early lead.

The Diamondbacks’ pitching was also impressive, as starter Robbie Ray threw five innings of one-run ball, striking out eight batters. The bullpen then took over, with Archie Bradley and Andrew Chafin combining to throw four scoreless innings.

The Diamondbacks will look to build on their strong performance in Game 1 when they face the Brewers again in Game 2. If they can continue to get strong pitching and timely hitting, they should be able to take a commanding lead in the series.
