The Carolina Hurricanes have taken the first game of their second round series against the New Jersey Devils, winning 5-1. The Hurricanes dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Devils 44-23 and controlling the pace of play.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Teuvo Teravainen. The Devils responded with a goal from Taylor Hall, but the Hurricanes answered back with three more goals in the second period from Nino Niederreiter, Jordan Staal, and Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes added one more goal in the third period, while the Devils were unable to find the back of the net again.
The Hurricanes were led by goaltender Petr Mrazek, who made 22 saves and allowed only one goal. Mrazek was supported by a strong defensive effort from the Hurricanes, who limited the Devils to only 23 shots on goal.
The Hurricanes will look to build on their Game 1 victory as they look to take a commanding lead in the series. The Devils will need to regroup and find a way to generate more offense if they want to even up the series. Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Friday night in Raleigh.
