The New York Jets are reportedly set to meet with running back Dalvin Cook this weekend, according to an AP source. Cook, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL, has been one of the most productive running backs in the league since he was drafted in 2017.
Cook has been a consistent presence in the Minnesota Vikings’ backfield since he was drafted, leading the team in rushing yards in each of his three seasons. He has also been a reliable receiver out of the backfield, catching at least 35 passes in each of his three seasons. Last season, Cook rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching 53 passes for 519 yards and another score.
The Jets have been looking to upgrade their running back position this offseason, and Cook would be a major addition to their offense. He would give them a reliable, every-down back who can both run and catch the ball out of the backfield. The Jets have been searching for a running back who can take some of the pressure off of quarterback Sam Darnold and give the offense a spark.
Cook is set to become a free agent after this season, so the Jets may be looking to make a move to acquire him before he hits the open market. It remains to be seen what kind of deal the Jets are willing to offer Cook, but it’s clear that they are interested in adding him to their roster.
This meeting between Cook and the Jets could be a major step towards the team acquiring one of the best running backs in the NFL. It will be interesting to see how this meeting plays out and what kind of deal the two sides can come to.
