The Texas Rangers have placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb. Seager suffered the injury during a game against the Oakland Athletics on April 28th.
The Rangers had high hopes for Seager this season, as he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason. Seager was expected to be a key piece of the Rangers’ lineup, and his absence will be felt.
Seager is no stranger to injuries, as he has had surgery on both hips in the past. He also missed most of the 2020 season due to a strained right hamstring. Despite these injuries, Seager has still been able to produce when healthy. In his first season with the Rangers, he is batting .250 with two home runs and six RBIs.
The Rangers have yet to announce who will replace Seager in the lineup while he is out. It is likely that utility infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa will take over at shortstop, but the team could also opt to use a platoon of players at the position.
The Rangers are hoping that Seager’s injury isn’t too serious and that he can return to the lineup soon. Until then, they will have to find a way to make up for his absence and continue their push for a playoff spot.
