On August 9th, it was announced that Conor Daly will be filling in for Simon Pagenaud in the upcoming IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio. Pagenaud, the reigning IndyCar champion, is unable to compete due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Daly, who is a regular driver for the Ed Carpenter Racing team, will be taking over the No. 22 Team Penske car for the race. Daly has been competing in the IndyCar series since 2012 and has had a few successful races in the past. He has finished in the top five three times and has earned eight top-10 finishes.
Daly is excited to have the opportunity to fill in for Pagenaud and is looking forward to the challenge. He said, “I’m really looking forward to getting back in an IndyCar and racing at Mid-Ohio. It’s a great track and I’m sure it will be a great race. I’m grateful to Team Penske for giving me this opportunity and I’m looking forward to doing my best to help them out.”
Team Penske is confident that Daly will be able to fill in for Pagenaud and have a successful race. Team owner Roger Penske said, “Conor has a lot of experience in the series and we know he will do a great job for us at Mid-Ohio. We’re confident that he can step in and get the job done.”
The Mid-Ohio race will be held on August 16th and will be Daly’s first IndyCar race of the season. It will be interesting to see how he fares in Pagenaud’s car and if he can help Team Penske get a good result. Regardless of the outcome, it should be an exciting race and a great opportunity for Daly to show what he can do on the track.
