The NHL is no stranger to young talent, but the latest addition to the league has taken it to a whole new level. Connor Bedard, a 15-year-old from North Vancouver, has become the youngest player ever to be drafted into the NHL.
Bedard was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, making him the first player born in 2006 to be drafted into the NHL. He is also the first player born in Canada to be drafted since Sidney Crosby in 2005.
Bedard has been playing hockey since he was five years old and has been a standout player ever since. He has played in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League for the past two seasons and has been a top scorer in both seasons. He was also named the CSSHL’s Player of the Year for 2020-21.
Bedard’s skill level has been compared to that of Crosby’s at a similar age. He is an excellent skater with great vision and playmaking ability. He is also a strong puck handler and is able to create scoring chances with his quickness and agility.
Bedard is still very young, but he has already shown that he has the potential to become a star in the NHL. He will need to continue to develop his skills and work hard if he wants to reach his full potential. However, if he can reach his full potential, he could be the next Sidney Crosby.
Only time will tell if Bedard can reach the same level of success as Crosby, but one thing is for sure: Bedard is a special talent and one to watch out for in the future.
