On Wednesday night, the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in a hard-fought battle at Citizens Bank Park. The victory was led by Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who threw seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out nine batters.

The Yankees got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, as Aaron Judge hit a solo home run to give New York a 1-0 lead. The Phillies responded in the bottom of the second, when Jean Segura drove in two runs with a single to center field.

The Yankees regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning when DJ LeMahieu hit an RBI single to score Gleyber Torres. The Yankees added another run in the top of the sixth when Gio Urshela drove in Judge with a double.

Cole was dominant throughout the night, as he retired the last 13 batters he faced. He also recorded his first win as a Yankee, improving his record to 1-1 on the season.

The Phillies were unable to mount a comeback, as their offense struggled against Cole and the Yankees bullpen. Philadelphia dropped to 1-5 on the season, while the Yankees improved to 4-2.

The Yankees will look to build on their victory as they travel to Tampa Bay for a four-game series against the Rays. Meanwhile, the Phillies will look to get back on track as they host the Washington Nationals for a three-game set starting Friday night.
