The Kansas City Chiefs had a big win on Saturday night as they beat the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 in their preseason opener. The star of the show was quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Demarcus Robinson in the second quarter.
Mahomes, who was drafted 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, looked comfortable and confident in his first game as a professional. He finished the night with 15 completions on 27 attempts for 178 yards and one touchdown. He also added two rushes for 16 yards.
The Chiefs offense was clicking on all cylinders, as they scored touchdowns on all four of their red zone trips. Mahomes connected with Robinson for a 9-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up 14-3 in the second quarter. The Chiefs would go on to score 24 unanswered points to put the game away.
The Chiefs defense also had a strong performance, holding the Cardinals to just 10 points and forcing three turnovers. Linebacker Reggie Ragland had a big game, recording two sacks and an interception.
The Chiefs are looking to build on their success from last season, and Mahomes looks like he could be the key to their success. His performance in the preseason opener showed that he has the potential to be a great quarterback in the NFL. With Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs could be poised for another successful season.
