On Tuesday, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown called for the delay or cancellation of a White Sox game after two people were shot near the stadium. The shooting occurred around 3:30 pm on the 3500 block of South Shields Avenue, which is less than a mile away from Guaranteed Rate Field.

The two victims were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Chicago Police Department is investigating the incident and searching for the suspects.

In response to the shooting, Superintendent Brown said, “We cannot have these kinds of incidents near our stadiums and parks. I am asking the White Sox organization to delay or cancel tonight’s game out of an abundance of caution.”

The White Sox organization responded to Superintendent Brown’s request and decided to postpone the game. They released a statement saying, “The safety of our fans, players, and staff is our top priority. We are in full support of the Chicago Police Department’s decision to postpone tonight’s game and we will continue to work with them to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.”

This is not the first time that a shooting has occurred near Guaranteed Rate Field. In 2019, there were two separate shootings near the stadium. The Chicago Police Department is working hard to ensure that these types of incidents do not happen again.

It is unfortunate that these types of incidents occur in our city. We must all work together to keep our streets safe and prevent further violence.
